“Washed, Sanctified, Justified”

1 Corinthians 6:9-20

The city of Corinth was known as “Sin City” of the Roman Empire and the members of the Corinthian Church had come from that background. The temptation to go back to that lifestyle was strong. Paul reminds them (6:11) of three things that happened to them when they responded to the gospel, “And such were some of you. But...” :

1. “You were washed”

Revelation 1:5 “To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood”.

1 John 1:7 “the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin”

2. “You were sanctified”.

6:19-20 “you are not your own...for you were bought at a price”

1 Peter 1:17-19 “knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things.....but with the precious blood of Christ”

3. “You were justified”

Romans 3:21-26 “being justified freely by His grace, through the redemption that is Christ Jesus”

2 Corinthians 5:21 “He made Him ....to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him”.

“therefore , glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s”.
