Peter is writing "To those who have obtained like precious faith with us"
He mentions five types of believers:
1. Diligent believers.
a. Those who grow in their knowledge of Him (1:2,3; 3:18).
b. Those who use "all things given to us that pertain to life and godliness (1:3)"
c. Those who know and claim "the exceedingly great and precious promises" which have been given to believers (1:4).
d. Those who are diligent to add (epichoregeo, supply) in their faith, virtue, knowledge, self control, patience,
godliness, brotherly kindness, love.
2. Barren (idle, useless) believers. (1:8)
2 Thessalonians 3:11, "there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies".
3. Unfruitful believers. (1:8)
Mark 4:19, "the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful".
4. Blind (short-sighted) believers. (1:9)
1 John 2:10-11, "He who hates his brother...walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes"
5. Forgetful believers. (1:9)
"has forgotten that he was purged from his old sins"
Matthew 26:69-75, "he began to curse and swear, saying, ‘I do not know the man".
God has promised diligent believers that He will supply (epichoregeo) an abundant entrance into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
