“Stirring Up The Established”

2 Peter 1:12-21

 

The people to whom Peter was writing had “obtained like precious faith”, and were “established in the present truth”. Yet he said, “I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up...”

 

  1. Peter knew the consequences in a Christian’s life who is not “stirred up”.

Matthew 26:37-41 “..stay here and watch with me…then He came and found them sleeping and He said to Peter,… ‘watch and pray lest you enter into temptation…the flesh is weak.”

 

Matthew 26:69-75 “Then he began to curse and to swear saying, “I do not know the Man”

 

1 Peter 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilant…”

 

  1. He knew the consequences when the church is not “stirred up”.

 

  1. Matthew 13:25, 39 “While men slept the enemy came and sowed tares…the enemy who sowed them is the devil…”

 

2 Peter 2:1 “there will be false teachers among you…denying the Lord that bought them…”

 

  1. 2 Peter 3:1-4 “…I stir up your pure minds …scoffers will come...saying, ‘Where is the promise of His coming…”

 

Romans 13:11-12 “…knowing the time that it is high time to awake out of sleep for now our salvation is neared than when we first believed.”

 

1 Corinthians 15:34 “Awake to righteousness and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God I speak this to your shame.
