"Simeon And His Prophecy"

Luke 2:25-35

1. Simeon.

a. He was “just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel” (2:25).
(Because of Daniel’s prophecy (9:24-25), all should have been waiting.)

b. “the Holy Spirit was upon him”.

c. The Holy Spirit had revealed to him that he would not die until he “had seen the Lord’s Christ” (2:26).

d. The Holy Spirit lead him to the temple to be there when “the parents brought in the Child Jesus”(2:27).

2. His prophecy.

“This Child is destined for:

a. “The fall ...of many”

1 Peter 2:6-8 “a stone of stumbling...they stumble, being disobedient to the word” (John 3:19-20).

b.“The rising of many”

Ephesians 2:4-6 “and raised us up...and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus”.

Philippians 3:20 “For our citizenship is in heaven”.

c. “and for a sign which will be spoken against”.

. Acts 28:22 “it is spoken against everywhere”.
