“A New Attitude”

Mark 10:32 - 45

1. The attitude of the world:

“Do for us whatever we ask” (10:35).

2. The new attitude:

“The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many” (10:45).

3. Failure to develop this attitude is the cause of most of our problems in life.

a. Personality problems:

1). Anger and jealousy.
“When the ten heard it, they began to be greatly displeased with James and John” (10:41; compare 9:33-34).

2). Hurt feelings, timid, bashful.
“They will mock Him, scourge Him, spit on Him, and kill Him” (10:34).

b. Family problems.

1). Between husbands and wives. One or both come to the marriage expecting to be served without serving.
2). Children expect to be served without serving.

c. Employment problems.

Working to get without giving. (Colossians 3:23-24)

d. Church problems.

Coming to be served instead of to serve. (Philippians 2:1-4)
