“Lessons From The Wilderness”
Exodus 13:17-18; 14:1-31
The journey of the Israelites from bondage in Egypt to the Promised Land
typifies our journey from the time of our redemption from the bondage of
sin till we enter our “promised land”.
There are important lessons which we can learn from their journey which
will help us in our journey.
1. 13:17 “..God did not lead them by way of the ..Philistines, although it
was near...lest the people change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt.
1 Corinthians 10:13 “..God is faithful, who will not allow you to be
tempted beyond what you are able..”
2. 13:18 “...the children of Israel went up in orderly ranks..” (not as a fleeing mob).
1 Corinthians 14:40 “Let all things be done decently and in order.”
3 14:2 “Speak to the children of Israel that they turn and camp before Pi Hahireth...you shall camp before it by the sea..”
Had they have gone by way of the Philistines they could easily have turned back to Egypt and its bondage. God chose to lead them into a situation from which they could not possibly escape from without His help!
2 Corinthians 1:9 “..we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that
we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead.”
Most of us do not trust God until we have to. Therefore, He leads us into situations in which we have to.
4. The results:
14:4 “..I will gain honor over Pharaoh...that the Egyptians may know that I am the Lord.”
2 Corinthians 4:7 “..that the excellence of the power may be of God.. “
