Today, there is much concern about what is healthy for the body, but little concern about what is healthy for the soul! What we put into our bodies affects the health of our bodies. What we put into our minds affects the health of our souls.
Healthy words (6:3).
"The words of our Lord Jesus Christ"
"The teaching which is according to godliness"
1. With regard to the master-servant relationship.
Slavery was one of the "crooked things that could not be made straight" (Ecclesiastes 1:15). It was a fact of life that could not be changed.
a. Matthew 11:29 "Take My yoke upon you". All believers are under the yoke of Christ. None of us are free to live as we please.
b.1 Corinthians 7:20-24 "let each one remain with God in that calling in which he was called".
c. Ephesians 6:5-8 "Servants, be obedient to..your masters..doing service as to the Lord, and not to men".
d. 1 Timothy 6:1 "so that the name of God and His doctrine may not be blasphemed".
e. Titus 2:9-10 "Exhort servants to be obedient...that they may adorn the doctrine of God our savior in all things".
2. With regard to worldly gain (6:5-10).
"Who suppose that godliness is a means of gain".
a. Matthew 16:21-25"If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross, and follow Me..whoever loses his life for My sake will find it".
b. 1 Timothy 6:6-10 "Godliness with contentment is great gain...those who desire to be rich fall into...a snare ...which drown men in destruction...some have...pierced themselves through with many sorrows".
