“Great Men Who Failed As Fathers”

Ephesians 6:4  “..bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord 

1. Eli   (He failed to admonish)

    1 Samuel 2:12-17  “Now the sons of Eli were corrupt; they did not                   know the Lord...the sin of the young men was very great...”

      2:22-29-29  “..Eli heard everything his sons did...how they lay with

         the women..at the door of the tabernacle..”

      3:11-13  “..I will judge his house forever...because his sons made                    themselves vile and he did not restrain (admonish) them.”

2. Samuel   (He failed to train )

    1 Samuel 7:15  “..Samuel judged Israel.....on a circuit to Bethel, Gilgal,

       and Mizpah..”

      8:1-3  “..he made his sons judges over Israel....But his sons did not

        walk in his ways...(he didn’t take the time to train them in his                   ways).. they took bribes and perverted justice

3. David   (He failed to set a good example)

   2 Samuel 12:9  “Why have you despised the commandment of the                Lord....You have killed Uriah...taken his wife...”

    13:1  “..Absalom the son of David had a sister...and Amnon the son of            David loved her.”

    13:21 “..when King David heard ..he was very angry..” 

    18:33:8  “Then the king was deeply moved...and wept..”
