"Forgetting And Remembering"

A. Forgetting.

We are to forget those things from the past which can hinder us from receiving what God has for us now and in the future.

1. Things from the past which we are tempted to be proud of.

a. Family background (3:4-5)
b. Educational vocational background (3:5)
c. Past successes

2. Things from the past which we are ashamed of.
Acts 26:9-11 "I myself thought I must do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth".

3. Wrongs suffered from others.
Colossians 3:12-13 "forgiving one another...even as Christ forgave you". (Hebrews 10:17 "their sins and lawless deeds I will remember no more").

B. Remembering.

We are to remember those things that will keep us from becoming spiritually proud.

1. Our condition before we were saved.
Ephesians 2:11-12 "remember that you were...without Christ having no hope and without God in the world".

Deuteronomy 15:15 "You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt".

2. What God has done for us.
Psalm 103:1-5 "forget not all His benefits".
Psalm 11:4 "He has made all His wonderful works to be remembered".
