1. "In returning and rest you shall be saved....but you would not" (30:15).
When threatened by the Assyrians, Israel chose to seek help from Egypt instead of returning to the Lord and depending upon Him:
"Woe to the rebellious children, says the Lord, who take counsel, but not of Me" (30:1).
"Who walk to go down to Egypt....to trust in the shadow of Egypt" (30:2; Psalm 91:1-4)
2. "Therefore the Lord will wait, that He may be gracious to you...." "He will be very gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when he hears it, He will answer you" (30:18-19).
Hezekiah’s response when ordered by the Assyrian commander to surrender:
Isaiah 37:1-6, "when King Hezekiah heard it, he tore his clothes, covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the Lord".
37:14 -20 'Then Hezekiah prayed to the Lord"
The Lord’s answer when He heard Hezekiah’s cry:
Isaiah 37:33-35 "Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the king of Assyria: ‘He shall not come into this city...for I will defend this city to save it"
37:36-38 "Then the angel of the Lord killed in the camp of the Assyrians one hundred and eighty-five thousand.... So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and went away"
Is the Lord waiting to hear our cry?
