Exodus 14:1-31
1. The Lord, Himself, led the Israelites when they left Egypt. Exodus 13:18 “So God led the people around by way of the wilderness of the Red Sea. And the children of Israel went up in orderly ranks out of the land of Egypt.” Exodus 13:21 “And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night.”
2. He led them into a situation from which it was humanly impossible to to escape. Exodus 14:9 “So the Egyptians pursued them...and overtook them camping by the sea” Exodus 14:10 “So they were very afraid, and they cried out to the Lord.” Exodus 14:11 “Then they said to Moses... ‘Why have you so dealt with us, to bring us out of Egypt?”
3. Moses’ reply: Exodus 14:13 “Do not be afraid. Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.” Exodus 14:22 “So the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.”
Why did God lead them into that situation?1. Exodus 14:4 “that the Egyptians may know that I am the Lord.”
2. Exodus 14:28 “Then the waters returned and covered the chariots, the horsemen and all the army of Pharaoh...Not so much as one of them remained.” (The Egyptians would not be able to enslave them again.)
3. Exodus 14:31 “Thus Israel saw the great work which the Lord had done..so the people feared the Lord, and believed the Lord and Moses”
