“The Chief Shepherd”

1 Peter 5:1-4

“When the Chief Shepherd appears, you also will receive the crown of

glory that does not fade away.”

Christ is the “Good Shepherd” because He gave his life for the sheep, the

“Great Shepherd” because of His resurrection. He will return as the

“Chief Shepherd”.

1. His return as Chief Shepherd as it relates to the church:

John14:1-3 “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again

and receive you to Myself, that where I am you may be also.”

Philippians 3:20 “For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we eagerly

wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ”

1 Corinthians 3:11-15 “For no other foundation can anyone lay than that

which is laid, which is Jesus Christ....if anyone’s work which he

has built on it endures, he will receive a reward”

2. His return as it relates to Israel:

Ezekiel 34:11-17,30 “I myself will search for my sheep...as a shepherd

seeks out his flock....And I will bring them out from the peoples...and

bring them to their own land.....I will judge between sheep and sheep

(Ezekiel 20:33-38).

3. His return as it relates to the nations:

Matthew 25:31-33 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory....all the

nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them...as a

shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.”
