A. Job was godly, but the bottom fell out of his life:
1. He lost his possessions and his children in one day (1:12-19).
a. His oxen, donkeys and servants (1:14-15).
b. His sheep and servants (1:16).
c. His camels (1:17).
d. His children (1:18-19).
2. He lost his health (2:7-8).
“Painful boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head”.
3. He lost his relationship with his wife (2:9).
“Curse God and die”
4. He lost his will to live (3:20-26).
“Why is light given to him who is in misery...who long for death but it does not come”
5. He lost his relationship with his relatives and friends
(19:13–14). “My relatives have failed and my close friends have forgotten me”.
6. He lost the sense of God’s presence (23:1-9).
“Oh, that I knew where I might find Him”
B. Job’s reaction to his losses.
1. His possessions.
“The lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord” (1:21).
2. His health.
“Shall we accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity” (2:10).
3. His will to live.
“After my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see for myself” (19:26).
4. His sense of God’s presence.
“But He knows the way that I take; when He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold” (23:10; Revelation 3:18).
